Happy International Women’s Day from the IGA!

Today, we celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of women in gaming and in our community.

Women in Gaming: Past, Present, and Future
The landscape of gaming has evolved significantly over the decades, with women playing increasingly prominent roles as designers, developers, players, and industry leaders. For example, this year we’re proud to have hosted industry pioneer Lynne Hardy as one of our distinguished guests. As Associate Editor for Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu line, Lynne has made significant contributions to the gaming world. Her impressive career includes writing and editing for companies such as Nightfall Games, Cubicle 7, and Pelgrane Press. She’s also the designer of her own ENnie-nominated steampunk game: Cogs, Cakes & Swordsticks. Lynne’s extensive work has helped shape gaming as we know it today.

Celebrating Our Community
We’d also like to extend special recognition to Emma Priest, winner of this year’s Spirit of Gaelcon award, presented by IGA Secretary Tymora Freeman-Stannett and Con Director John Dodd. Emma exemplifies the passion, creativity, and inclusive spirit that makes our gaming community thrive. Her dedication to fostering a welcoming environment for all gamers demonstrates the positive impact one person can have on our community.

From early trailblazers to today’s innovators, women have been integral to the advancement of games in all their forms – from tabletop to digital, from casual to competitive. Yet we recognize that challenges remain, and that building truly inclusive gaming spaces requires ongoing commitment from all of us.

Join the Conversation

We invite all IGA members to join us for a special discussion in our Discord today about women in gaming and the shifting dynamics of the industry. Share your experiences, highlight women who have influenced your gaming journey, and let’s explore together how we can continue to build a more inclusive community.

Let’s celebrate the achievements of the past while working together to create an even brighter, more inclusive future for gaming. Because our hobby is at its best when everyone can play.
