*** Gaelcon 37 ****
The venue for Gaelcon 37 is as previous years, it takes place from October 24th – 27th at Crowne Plaza Dublin Airport, Northwood Park, Santry Demesne, Dublin Ireland 9.
This certainty around dates and venue is important to allow people to plan their year.
Special Guest – maybe more than one, and we’re talking *royalty* here – is in the process of being confirmed so announcements will follow asap, and the team has already started on room layouts and branding.
As we get re-established after our virtual years, we’re seeing a steady build of company and sponsorship support, and the first meeting of this year’s con committee has taken place; there’s already a lot of those who were involved last year back on board, and lots of the format tweaks went down well, which is good to note.
If you have some time to give, there are opportunities to volunteer at and before the event, and to allow the event to grow, we’re keen to have more people join so that we can have new ideas and work on multi-year planning. The committee is a lovely bunch, under this year’s Con Director, Ty.
The team is in particular looking for help with booklet layout (thanks to Colm for his work in previous years), general administration and volunteering at the convention itself. But if you have other skills to bring, bring ’em.
**** The IGA ****
To summarise the IGA’s position – our Q1 EGM took place on Saturday – we’re in a good place, and ahead of things we have been doing over the last few years. Gaelcon 2024 went well, and though we have improvements, we’re still happy with the results. We have a well-staffed committee and are looking to get more done throughout the year so a good start.
Work is ongoing to clarify roles and responsibilities within the committee, how-tos when roles change, etc., to assist with participation and making progress on the organisation’s goals. We are also looking to get people interested in shadowing roles and getting more skill bases, training, etc, so there is space for rotation. There’s a clear ambition to do more outreach, events and general promotion, but like most volunteer groups, more bodies mean more can get done.
The full assessment of Gaelcon 2024 finances will be provided for Q2 meeting, and all is well there.
Also, because it makes you look 110% more wonderful, don’t forget to fill out the form for merch:
This will be followed up on and actioned asap. If anyone has suggestions of suppliers, we welcome the addition! Irish local is preferred. Will aim to balance cost and quality as best as possible.
