Rejoice! We have the finest crafters in all the world living with us, in Morgan’s Shadow. All we need do is show them respect and they will assist us. The Sidhe are the enemy of all.

Do we really want to expose the general populations to the potential dangers of this? I suppose it’s up to Ray as he’s taking the lead on it but I’d urge caution.

    Callon,

Firstly There is no guarantee they are not marked by the Sidhe, the Artificer did aid the forces in weakening us at Dol Morgan.

Secondly I think it cruel of you to put this mission over their safety, they are not resources to be used and abused especially when we know so little about potential traps beneath the Academy. I see the people who have volunteered and I believe we can at the very least gather more information before we throw people at it.

    Olin,
I agree, we need to handle this with care, revealing it’s existence without full understanding could cause panic.

    Valiant,

I am heartened by your concern for the Dwarven refugees. Since Dol Morgan I have devoted all my spare time to helping them.

They need more than food and shelter, they need dignity and purpose. The Sidhe are their enemies as much as ours. The Dwarves are a brave people.

Let Devnoll and Barnaby be an example to us all.

[OOC: There are a few places where this notice looks like it’s been edited slightly.]

OK, looks like the following people are up for working on this. We probably don’t need all of us, but I’d like us to try to cover all bases, so I’ve listed all the skills that people have said they could help with, and we can work out who we need to bring from there. I’d suggest a maximum of five, each doing distinct roles. If any others are able to help, now is the time.

    Belasko
    Bramble (Religion and Alchemy)
    Callon (Wizard, History, Magic)
Contessa (Rift survivor, Bard, Magical foci [lore and master], Magic, Geography)
    Felix
    Larten (Marked – fading?, unsure)
Ray (Bard, Magic, History, Geography, Master Armoursmith)
    Rodger (Magic, Trade and Geography)

I’d like to make sure we have one person either a master of or specialised in the lore of each of the major forms of magical item crafting: preferable both. The way I see it, we have an alchemist (Bramble?) study the material, an armoursmith (Possibly myself, but I’m not great at the theory) study the damage patterns to see how to repair it, a weaponsmith work out what had to be done to break such a device so we can undo it, a focus crafter examine the flows of magic within it and a spellwright to understand what energies are stored in the gate and its components.

    Alchemist: Bramble (Lore)
    Armoursmith: Ray (Master, no Lore)
    Focus crafter: Contessa (Both)
    Spellwright:
    Weaponsmith:

I think we could use at least one person skilled in each of Magic, History, Geography, Religion and Trade. The Magic specialist is obvious: this is one of the most intensely magical items we’ve encountered short of the garden, we’d do well to examine that carefully. A Historian can study markings and placement of the gate and the artefacts mentioned in the letters, find what relevance those have to points in what we’ve managed to recover about Imperial history. The Geographer could track any trails leading to or away from the gate, especially if we find plans and such in the city. A Trader would know if any components we find to be missing are the sort of thing that sells well, and if so, where to find them. Finally, the Religion expert could tell us if the power used here was divine in nature, and if the prayers of the faithful might help. Bardic lore is less likely to be useful, but might give a moment’s inspiration or allow us to hear an overheard comment, so is included for completeness

    Bardic: Contessa, Ray
    Geography: Contessa, Ray, Rodger
    History: Callon, Ray
    Magic: Callon, Contessa, Ray, Rodger
    Religion: Bramble
    Trade: Rodger

I’d also be cautious about asking anyone who’s not been through field training to accompany us on such a potentially dangerous trip: certainly, any who volunteer for such a trip should be warned about the risks and probably taken “under the wing” of one of the better trained heroes who are going on this expedition: Callon, if you know someone amongst the refugee population who is able and willing to do this, then so be it, but I think it would be best you take responsibility for their safety – and ours.

I’d ask that if there’s any others who wish to step forward, or any who already have who want to fill in more info, please let me know and we can get started.

    Ray,

The tomes of history and trade have not been checked out, so we can transfer them to whoever requires, or use them ourselves.

We are a Master Foci Crafter, with much training in the theory of this skill. We are also trained int the theory of magic.

And we’re not marked by any sidhe, even though we’ve bothered one a lot.

Also, we’ve been through a rift and survived, so if the gate network is connected that might help.

We also have geography lore, if that helps when the gate turns on and we all get sucked in.

    Contessa.

    Ray,

Given we have not ascertained the dangers of the gate yet is involving people not of the academy a wise move? We cannot assure their safety and we are running into something which seems to indicate a connection to rifts.

I might suggest you see if Tetsukawa could help with the weapon-smithing knowledge and Drana is also an accomplished spellwright I believe?

    Most noble Ray,

This one would be honoured to help in any way he can. However, he is but an apprentice alchemist and a humble scholar of religion. With all the accomplished graduates listed above, this one understands if he is of little use to you. May your endeavors bear bountiful fruit.

    With respect,
Kiato of House Hearth-Home, Clan Hospitality

    Ray,

My interests lie in the lore of magic, history, and magical foci – if I can be of any assistance to you in these areas.

I can lead you there but the time I can spend close to the structure is VERY limited (and I imagine about as pleasent to see as it was to experience) so I cannot help directly. Bring the translation keys for the old empire text with you. everything I managed to grab from there was written in that language.

    Ray,

As I believe it is important to give newer Graduates opportunities, if it is acceptable to you I would like to give up my place in favour of Bela. Thank you for having invited me.

OK, let’s do it like this:
Looks like me, Contessa, Bela, Rodger and possibly Bramble are in. Anyone else wants to join us, let me know directly. Everyone look at the structure from your own perspective. We’re trying to find what it is, what happened to it, how to fix it and so on: but we should avoid, if at all possible, activating it or further damaging it. This is a fact finding mission, we don’t want to set things in motion that we can’t change. Look up at the note above and see what component of the artefact I suggest you examine based on your skills.

This seems like a dangerous mission, so keep your gear close, your eyes open and your wits sharp.

    Ray & Olin,

My apologies for my tardiness in this regard, I’m afraid my head has been stuck in some very old books researching something not to far off from this. I would, if possible, like to be included in this. I can bring an extensive knowledge of History & Religion, and I am one of the Academy’s better Healers. I also have, as Olin is aware, personal reasons for looking into this, so I ask you to let me know, post haste, if there is a position for me on this expedition.

    I Remain Your Faithful Servant,

    Taliesin ap Gwion bin Sheyallia.
